Here Comes the Rain Again
Saturday, September 12th, 2009 For the last week South Brazil has been punished by rain and we are already expecting rainfall levels above normal for the next couple of months.
Last Tuesday - September 7th - a powerful storm hit many towns on the west of Santa Catarina state and bordering Argentina. According to specialists, 3 tornadoes hit the area and caused large scale destruction. Since then it’ s been raining every day here in Floripa.
Spring is normally a rainy season, however since last year - when we had the disaster in November with the flooding and landslides - the amount and frequency of rain seems to be rising. The event El Nino has been pointed as the main factor on bringing so much rain to the region.
This year spring hasn’t even started yet and we already have this condition. If there is any connection with Global warming I wouldn’t be surprised.
But I am sure, despite the difficult times we could face until summer, the sun will shine again, and it will reveal how beautiful it is this place and people.
