Fall - Need for Change

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Daniela beach

The season has changed on southern hemisphere and things slowed down in Floripa. The beaches aren’t as crowded as it was just a month ago neither the traffic jams are as long. The weather has become slightly mild and from now on the water will be colder. Of course the temperature is still good enough to go to the beach when the sun is shinning.

It is a good time but it also brings the feeling that summer is over and I could have enjoyed more. But I am not depressed about it because I like autumn and the daylight is very beautiful at this time.

The change of season came with a need for a change in life also. There are times when you really want to upgrade, pass to another level, simply turn the table. You know it by signs that life gives you everyday, just like the change of season.

It came to my mind a book I have read a couple of years ago, “Who moved my cheese ? “, an inspiring and motivational bestseller book. Sometimes dealing wih change takes us out of comfort zone therefore creating an internal crisis. It is time to reflect about those concepts and past experiences to undestand how to cope with this moment.

Bar do Arante

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Well known restaurant, Bar do Arante it is a traditional point in the south of the island selling fresh seafood since the 60’s. The most noticeable feature are the thousands of paper messages spread all over the walls, ceiling and windows, a custom that has been passed down from students visiting the region in the 70’s as a way of leaving messages to their next coming friends. If you want to leave one just ask the waiter.
You can either go for a drink and snack (they offer a goood quality cachaça) or go for a la carte meal. On the menu you find many fish dishes ( around R$ 65 ), Shrimp dishes ( around R$ 70 ) and many other seafood especialities. On Saturdays, Sunday and holidays there is buffet style meal for R$ 23 per person with good variety of dishes.

The table service is casual reflecting the simple fishing atmosphere of Pântano do Sul.

If you are visiting the southern beaches like Lagoinha do Leste, Pântano do Sul or Solidão take the oportunity to sample good seafood in one of the most famous restaurants in Florianópolis.

Pizzaria Nave Mãe

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Florianópolis hasn’t a strong tradition on Pizza, but there are some good Pizzarias in the city offering a delicious round.
Nave Mãe ( translated mothership ) is an interesting place because it has a creative way of selling its Pizza made with healthy ingredients. The house, located in Canto da Lagoa, has a nice and comfortable interior. It also has different names for its pizzas like Saturn, Pluto, Orion, Andromeda and many other suggesting space theme. The special Pizzas are made with wholemeal flour and my favorite one is called Sputinik ( leek, tomato sauce, cheese and oregano ),but if you want there are traditional types available. Prices vary between R$25 and R$ 35 for a medium-sized pizza or a little bit more for a larger one.
For entertainment you can request Wooden Brain Teaser puzzles and ocasionally there are acoustic live music at night.
The table service is good and order waiting time is about 20-30 minutes, of course depending on the number of customers in one given night.

In overall, Nave Mãe is a popular place an a good choice for Pizza lovers.
