The end of a year and the beginning of a new one, time when Floripa gets tripled its population for the many sun & sea seekers who arrive at the island every summer season. Traffic jams everywhere; crowded beaches, supermarkets, shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. A test of patience for locals and tourists. For residents the situation isn’t comfortable with so many people and cars, but in the other hand it is good for the local economy. Tourism especialists say that Floripa needs to attract many visitors not only during summer but also during low season.
This summer started with very hot temperatures, an average of + 30 °C. The sun is showing all day and at evening thunderstorms ocasionally happen. A forecast of a good summer.

Florianópolis fish market is where you probably get the best offer of fresh seafood in the city for a good price. Located inside the Public Market, it is a place commonly visited by locals and tourists looking for good quality seafood products.

You find all sorts of fish, like Grouper, Mullet, Snook and Salmon; Shellfish like oysters, mussels and many other. Normally it is a busy place and prices are cheaper compared to other places, but it all depends on the fish catch. Buying shrimp is quite popular for its good price, due to large scale farms in the region.

I often go there to buy fresh seafood to cook my favorite dishes.

Wings

This morning I felt a ligh breeze blowing after many days of a strong gale and it was an invitation to spread the wings. It seems the flying season is on.
For the wind direction being southeast I run to Praia Mole, on Galheta hill take off, my favorite flying site. The hard climb up was rewarded with a good breeze and some vultures soaring over the hill, giving a hint of where is the lift. Soon I was airborne and was by myself with the vultures for a while until another pilot joined us.
Some time ago I read Jonathan Livingston Seagull from Richard Bach, a very inspiring book. Among many things it made me think about some birds and what flying means to them. I look at them and I believe there is a lot more than using the wings only for the purpose of moving and survival. They must be enjoying the lift too.
