Chão Batido Restaurant

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I have been a loyal customer to this small restaurant for some time and the reason is that it has never disapointed me. Located in the traditional Santo Antonio de Lisboa suburb, the restaurant offers great seafood and professional table service for a good price, an excellent place to try some of the local cuisine. It is a nice two storey house next to a small beach allowing you to have a view of Northern bay and also spot Hercílio Luz bridge, an enchating scenery at night. I don’t waste my time choosing where I am going to sit and go straight up to the second floor to pick a table in the balcony. The interior is casual, dim lit and always playing good brazilian music, making me feel very confortable.

Usually I get my entry with a portion of 12 Oysters ( R$ 18 ) that I believe are the best I’ve had so far in the island. Other petiscos( snacks ) like fried squid, fish fingers and shrimp have also been approved. My main meal was a delicious grilled salmon fillet garnished with lettuce leaves ( R$ 45) and accompanied with a fresh salad (R$ 6). For two it comes well served but of course it depends on how hungry you are.

I keep coming back to Chão batido because it provides me not only good food but a nice gastronomic experience within a reasonable economic budget.

Little Summer

Ponta das Canas
The summer is over but the sun is not. This weekend the temperature reached 30 C making the people head to the beaches. What makes this climate situation are the hot air masses that stop the cold fronts to enter the region, the so called Veranico, or ” little summer”, common during this time of the year.
For me it wasn’t different. The sky was blue with no single cloud on sight and on Saturday morning I was with my feet on the sand. I really need sun and sea to energise myself and nothing better than jumping and riding the waves.
I believe the Veranico will happen once in while until May but with the Global warming messing all the climate we never know what to expect.
