Seascape

Sunset and view of Ingleses beach.
The headland between the Ingleses and Santinho beach has interesting hiking trails revealing fantastic views of the rocks, sea and nearby islands. I had once explored the south side of it and this time I went hiking on the caminho do engenho, translating “the mill way”.
The way had been used during the 50’s by locals to access the sugarcane plantations- the reason for building a mill- and also for fishing. Today people walk along the way for leisure and fishermen for rock fishing.
The hiking starts on the southern end of Ingleses beach at the deck of the santinho/ Ingleses archaeological park, where you can see lithic stations made by indigenous thousands of years ago. It follows the northern side of the headland, going through the bush and sometimes with clearings to see the views.
Amazing views of the Mata-fome island and Moleques do Norte islands and the dramatic seascape makes it an unforgettable hiking.
Whether you want to walk for nature contemplation, exercising or simply leisure, it is certainly a great way to both see and experience this part of the Santa Catarina island.
Extension : 3090 metres
Duration: 1,5 hours
Highest point: 67 metres
Level: easy but sometimes you need to walk on the rocks and close to cliff sides.

Lithic Stations - They are vestiges left by prehistoric individuals who used diabase and eventually sandstone to sharp and polish their lithic implements. The act of scratching the tools against the rock left depressions, some in dish-like form and others in furrow-like form, leaving registrated those activities by thousands of years. Notice: This week a couple of Dutch tourists got lost in a trail in the south for over 18 hours. Visitors should be careful when hiking because despite being easy, some trails can be confusing and in the dark things can get complicated. Always let someone know where you went hiking and what time you should return. In this case problems can be reported to the firestation, dial 193.
